Making realistic fabric folds in Photoshop CS.
I was playing around with the new 'Fibers' filter in CS, and I stumbled on an
easy way to make shadows and higlights that appear in the natural folds of
fabric.
I needed this about a year and half ago when I
made the most lame curtain ever
for an even lamer flash movie. Well, better late than
never!
*Update* After finishing and uploading this
tut, I searched for it, and of course
found a VERY similar curtain
tutorial by Colin Smith. I assure you, the
similarities in these two tutorials is purely coincidence, and mine is not a rip
I thought I was sooooo original with this one, DAMN!
Step 1. Create a new document. Create a new layer
.
With default colors
(black and white) fill the layer using the
'Clouds' filter
(Filter > Render > Clouds).
Step 2. No go to Filter > Render > Fibers. I
used these settings. Click 'OK'.
Figure A.
Step 3. No do an Image > Adjustments > Gradient Map
Choose this gradient:
Figure B.
Ok, now you should have something roughly this ugly.
Figure C.
Step
4. No go to Image > Adjustments >
Levels. I used the following settings:
Figure D.
Step
5. Filters > Blur Motion Blur using these settings:
Figure E.
Step 6. No do a Filter . Blur > Gaussian Blur with a radius
of 3.0
This is roughly what you should have as your final result!
